Watching Grass Grow Week 12: Baby's Second Haircut

The buffalo grass responded to the first mowing by sending out a lot of side growth and getting thicker, so I mowed it again!

Weaning it off water starts real soon, when the relative humidity goes up. Right now it's getting watered every other day, so I'll go to three days, then four, increasing the length of the waterings as I decrease the number.

I noticed that some of the websites recommended mowing UC Verde during the establishment period to encourage spread and prevent weed growth. I'm trying to decide when to do that.

I mowed it when I had enough grass covering the dirt that it wasn't going to kick up a cloud of dust under the power mower. If you have a push mower you could do it earlier.

It definitely did stimulate the runners, but we also had a nice stretch of 90-degree weather.

I'm waiting to see what happens with really HOT weather, like 105-110°.
